Though having a missing tooth or gap in your smile may seem like just a small thing, it can have a big effect on self-confidence as well as your health. When you feel as though you must hide your mouth when smiling or talking to people, this can quickly knock your confidence and even lead to feelings of embarrassment or isolation.

In terms of health, having gaps between your teeth could also make affect your nutrition and make it more difficult to remove trapped food and keep up good oral hygiene, leading to bad breath, gum problems, or tooth decay.

We understand how important it is for our patients to find a solution and regain confidence in their smiles! At Clinica Cloe, our highly skilled team is experienced in fitting dental implants, a quick and effective treatment option for teeth replacement that will give you comfortable, natural-looking teeth. If you are still not sure about it, let us alleviate some of your most common worries about dental implants.

If you are still not sure, Dr Victor Begara our Clinic Director and an expert in implantology will answer your most common dental implants questions. Here are questions and answers about dental implants.

Dental implants in Madrid: your questions answered

    1. Will dental implants look natural?

Yes, do not worry! As dentists we always aim to create a dental implant and the soft tissues that look exactly the same as the surrounding teeth. This is possible thanks to the time we spend planning treatment: we use Digital Smile Design, we have digital software, guided surgery, and technology to be able to fabricate perfect-looking crowns, bridges, or full rows of teeth.

    2. I want a permanent solution to replace my missing teeth.

The best option in this case is dental implants, which have a high success rate of up to 95% in 10 years. The surgery is simple: we spend more time in planning and actually very little time in executing the treatment once it is planned out appropriately and discussed with the patient.

    3. I need some teeth removed but I do not want a denture.

Do not worry. Depending on the number of teeth you need to have removed, we can replace them with a bridge on top of implants or with single unit implants. Or, if for some reason you do need to get a denture, because you do not have enough bone, we will make sure that the denture is locked into your jaw so that you will never have a problem and can carry on with your normal daily routine as before.

    4. I am worried I might lose a tooth.

Come to our office and you will never go one day with a gap in your mouth again. We promise patients that nobody will realize they are undergoing dental treatment. Obviously, if they have braces, people realize they have braces, but a patient will never leave the office without a missing tooth. We always do our best to ensure that no gaps are seen in the patient's mouth during any stage of treatment.

    5. I only need to replace one tooth in my mouth.

Perfect! A single unit implant is usually quite simple to place. Once the tooth is removed, before you have too much bone loss, we take advantage to place the implant and the crown, so it looks as natural as all the teeth around it.

    6. I am concerned that my dental implant treatment will fail. What are the risks?

Dental implants have a very long-term success rate. As with any other treatment, we cannot give a 100% guarantee that they will not fail, but with appropriate treatment planning, it is very rare for an implant to fail. I would say that only five out of a hundred implants fail in 10 years.

We take excellent care of our dental implant patients and make sure they attend regular appointments after implant placement so that we can monitor them and provide specialized dental hygiene services.

    7. I am worried I have left my missing teeth too long to replace now.

This is not a problem. There might be a few more steps required in the treatment process, but if the patient is willing to dedicate the time needed, there will always be a solution to restore missing teeth with a fixed implant.

The problem when we wait too long to replace a gap where a tooth used to be is that the surrounding teeth and the opposing teeth tend to move into that area over time. This can cause problems such as tooth ‘crowding’, creating an unbalanced bite. In such instances, we may recommend some orthodontic treatment to guide the teeth back into their ideal positions before placing a dental implant. This creates the best conditions for teeth and dental implant treatment.

    8. Does it hurt to have a dental implant placed?

Not at all. We use local anesthesia, the same as we use for single fillings. The procedure is very quick if properly planned. We can also do guided surgery, which allows us to be very minimally invasive during surgery. If patients are scared, or they do not want to be aware of the process being done, there is also the option of sedation, which for a single implant usually takes 20 minutes. Not many dental clinics in Spain have applied for the latest sedation license, and we are proud to offer this to any anxious patients to make them feel more at ease during their dental treatment.

    9. My dentures move when I eat.

This can be solved in many ways. The easiest way is to place a few implants that lock, or retain, the denture in its place. This will greatly reduce movement just with a small number of implants. Alternatively, we can place more implants and then get rid of the dentures and place fixed teeth on top of those implants.
